BYD ranked 91st in the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list released last July 29, climbing 52 ranks from 143rd place last year. More significantly, it marks BYD’s first entry into the prestigious top 100 ranking. BYD has now appeared on this global list for four consecutive years.

Growth That Speaks Volumes

Behind the ranking is undeniable momentum. BYD reported annual revenue of RMB 777.1 billion for 2024 (roughly $107.1 billion). That represents a solid 29% increase year-on-year. Sales figures were equally strong. The company set a new global record, selling 4.27 million new energy vehicles, representing a 41% year-on-year growth. This performance secured BYD’s position as the world’s top-selling new energy passenger vehicle brand for the third year running.

Where Investment Meets Innovation

Perhaps the most revealing detail isn't just the revenue or sales; it’s the relentless commitment fueling them. BYD poured RMB 54.2 billion (about $7.47 billion) into research and development during 2024 – a 36% increase that surpassed its net profit for the year. Remarkably, this pattern held true in 13 of the last 14 years. Technologies like the Blade Battery, the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, and Megawatt Flash Charging emerged directly from this sustained, profit-surpassing focus.

Global Footprint, Local Impact

Expansion beyond China accelerated sharply. Overseas sales of BYD passenger vehicles and pickups surpassed 470,000 units in just the first half of 2025. This growth stems from tangible localization. Key milestones tell the story: establishing a European headquarters in Hungary, rolling off the first vehicle at its new factory in Brazil, and delivering the 90,000th new energy vehicle in Thailand. Today, BYD NEVs are available across 112 countries and regions worldwide.

More Than a Ranking

Starting as a battery maker in 1995, BYD has evolved into a diversified force across automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics. This Fortune Global 500 ranking, together with breaking into the top 100, reflects the scale BYD now brings to its core purpose: using technology and global reach to 'Cool the Earth by 1°C'.
