Knowing what your vehicle’s warranty covers can help you feel more prepared throughout ownership. From the vehicle itself to its electric motor, drive unit, and traction battery, BYD’s warranty provides coverage for qualifying defects within specified time and mileage limits.

This guide explains the main coverages, the separate warranty periods for certain components, and the steps you can take to keep your warranty records in order.

Your Three Main Warranty Coverages:

Vehicle Warranty: 6 Years or 150,000 Kilometers

BYD’s vehicle warranty covers qualifying defects in materials or workmanship for 6 years or 150,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. This applies to vehicle parts other than those with separate warranty periods or specific coverage terms.

For example, corrosion and paint defects caused by a material defect or an error in workmanship under normal use fall under the vehicle warranty. Damage caused by scratches, stone chips, environmental exposure, or improper care is subject to warranty exclusions.

Some components have shorter warranty periods, so it helps to understand the component-specific coverages alongside the main vehicle warranty.

Electric Motor & Drive Unit Warranty: 8 Years or 160,000 Kilometers

The electric motor and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

This coverage includes the motor, motor controller, motor controller with DC assembly, and high-voltage electric control assembly. Qualifying defects in these components are assessed and addressed through BYD-authorized warranty service.

High Voltage Battery Warranty: 8 Years or 160,000 Kilometers

The traction battery, which supplies energy to drive the vehicle, is covered for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers, whichever comes first, with a minimum State of Health of 70%, subject to the warranty’s terms and conditions.

State of Health, or SOH, describes the battery’s remaining capacity relative to its original capacity. It differs from State of Charge, which tells you how much charge is available at a particular moment.

Normal battery capacity reduction is excluded from warranty coverage, subject to the traction battery warranty’s minimum SOH provision. If you have concerns about battery capacity or performance, contact a BYD-authorized service provider for an assessment of whether the issue qualifies for warranty service.

When Does Your Warranty Begin?

The warranty period starts on the date of delivery recorded in your Vehicle Warranty Certificate. Your dealer should complete the certificate accurately and stamp it, and you should keep it with your vehicle records.

“Whichever comes first” means coverage ends when either the time limit or the mileage limit is reached. For example, the vehicle warranty ends at 150,000 kilometers even if six years have not yet passed. It also ends after six years if the vehicle has traveled fewer than 150,000 kilometers.

Other Components Have Their Own Coverage

Certain parts have separate warranty periods. The following covers selected components rather than the complete component list. For each period below, the time or mileage limit applies, whichever comes first.

  • 4  years or 100,000 kilometers: Vehicle lights, tire pressure monitoring module, suspension, and ball joints.
  • 3 years or 60,000 kilometers: Multimedia system, shock absorbers, dust covers, bushings or gaskets, release and wheel bearings, AC/DC charging port assembly, and USB charging port connector.
  • 1 year or 20,000 kilometers: The 12V lead-acid battery.
  • 6 months or 10,000 kilometers: Specified filters, button batteries, brake pads, clutch discs, tires, wiper blade assemblies, bulbs, spark plugs, fuses, and ordinary relays, excluding integrated control units.

The one-year battery period above specifically applies to a 12V lead-acid battery. Your dealer can confirm the applicable coverage for other starter battery types fitted to your vehicle.

These periods cover qualifying defects. They do not make normal wear or routine replacement of consumable parts a warranty benefit. For example, brake pads wearing down through daily use or a tire punctured by road debris would not qualify simply because they are within the listed period.

BYD genuine charging equipment supplied with the vehicle, if any, has a separate one-year warranty from delivery. This differs from the warranty for the vehicle’s charging port assembly.

Specific coverage terms also apply to air-conditioning refrigerant, oils, and complimentary gifts:

  • Air-conditioning refrigerant: Leakage caused by a non-hardware failure has a one-year warranty from delivery.
  • Oils: Coverage ends at the first scheduled check or replacement limit, or when that maintenance is performed.
  • Complimentary gifts: These follow their own product warranty terms. Where no user manual is provided, the warranty period is six months or 10,000 kilometers from vehicle delivery, whichever comes first.

What Happens During a Warranty Repair?

A BYD-authorized service provider will inspect the concern and determine whether it meets the warranty conditions. Qualifying repairs or replacement of parts are provided at no cost. Work outside the warranty is chargeable at the rates advised by the service provider.

For a covered traction battery or drive unit issue, BYD may repair the unit or replace it with a new, reconditioned, or remanufactured part at its discretion. A replacement does not necessarily restore the vehicle to a “like new” condition. A replacement traction battery will have energy capacity at least equal to the original battery’s capacity before the failure, taking vehicle age and mileage into consideration.

Parts replaced under warranty retain the original part’s remaining warranty period. Replacement does not restart the warranty clock.

Genuine BYD spare parts purchased separately and properly installed have a 12-month warranty from delivery. If the relevant original vehicle-part coverage has longer remaining, that longer period applies for the owner’s benefit. Keep purchase invoices and repair documents to support any claim.

Caring for Your Vehicle and Maintaining Your Records

Following the Owner’s Manual helps keep your vehicle in good condition and supports warranty assessment. Important steps include:

  • Follow the maintenance schedule. Use the specified service intervals and recommended fluids, fuels, lubricants, and coolants for your model.
  • Keep service and repair records. Retain invoices, maintenance entries, and warranty repair notes showing the vehicle’s VIN, service date, mileage, service provider, and work performed.
  • Use and charge the vehicle correctly. Follow the guidance on charging, storage, load limits, and vehicle operation. Leave traction battery and high-voltage repairs to qualified personnel.

BYD strongly recommends maintenance and repairs through authorized service providers, which have trained technicians, suitable tools, and genuine parts. Owners may choose their service provider, but damage caused by improper maintenance or repair may be excluded from warranty coverage.

Understanding the Main Exclusions

The warranty focuses on qualifying product defects. Important exclusions include:

  • Normal wear, deterioration, and routine consumption of parts.
  • Damage caused by accidents, misuse, overloading, or racing.
  • Damage caused by floods, water immersion, natural disasters, or environmental and chemical exposure.
  • Damage resulting from modifications, unsuitable parts, or insufficient or improper maintenance.

VIN tampering, intentional odometer alteration that prevents mileage verification, and vehicles declared a total loss or carrying certain salvage or damage classifications can also affect warranty eligibility. Your BYD-authorized dealer or service provider can explain how these conditions apply to your vehicle.

Getting Help With a Warranty Concern

Report any defect noticed at delivery to your dealer promptly. If a concern develops later, contact a BYD-authorized service provider as soon as possible. Have your Vehicle Warranty Certificate and relevant service records ready, and keep the warranty repair note provided after covered work.

Warranty coverage applies to vehicles sold through authorized BYD dealers in the Philippines, and warranty services are obtained within the Philippines. Subsequent owners may also obtain warranty service, subject to the existing coverage and conditions. When selling your vehicle, pass on the warranty documents and service records and complete the required ownership transfer formalities.

For questions about a particular component or concern, your BYD-authorized dealer or service provider can help explain the applicable coverage and next steps.

Warranty coverage is subject to the applicable warranty periods, conditions, limitations, exclusions, and specific component terms. Contact your BYD-authorized dealer or service provider for complete details. Applicable rights under Philippine law remain unaffected.

Understanding your BYD’s warranty helps you know what to expect throughout ownership. By keeping up with scheduled maintenance, retaining your service records, and addressing concerns early, you can help keep your vehicle in good condition and make warranty assessments easier. Whenever you have a question about your coverage, your BYD-authorized dealer or service provider is there to guide you, so you can get back to enjoying the journeys ahead.
